Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Kyiv has proposed extending a ceasefire with Russia beyond Easter, expressing hope it could pave the way toward broader peace efforts.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared to adhere to a ceasefire regime and will respond only in a “mirror-like” manner, meaning there will be no Ukrainian strikes if Russian forces halt attacks across air, land and sea.
“Ukraine has repeatedly proposed various ceasefire formats to Russia, and we believe Easter should be a time of peace and security. An Easter ceasefire could mark the beginning of a real movement toward peace — we have submitted the relevant proposal,” he said.
The President added that Ukraine’s armed forces remain ready for any developments on the front, despite the diplomatic initiative.
Zelenskyy also said he had discussed operational plans with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, including the conduct of Ukrainian units during a ceasefire period.
“Our mirror approach and the possible extension of the ceasefire after Easter have also been communicated to the Russian side,” he said.
