Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that a Ukrainian delegation is travelling to the United States to resume peace negotiations aimed at ending the war with Russia, though not in its full composition.
Zelenskyy said talks are expected to restart in the coming days, with Ukrainian officials already en route to the United States. He stressed the importance of signals received from Washington indicating readiness to re-engage in various negotiation formats to bring the war to an end.
“The time has come to end the pause in negotiations,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine is doing everything possible to ensure the talks are substantive.
He confirmed the political wing of the Ukrainian negotiating team is already on its way, with a meeting anticipated on Saturday in the United States.
Zelenskyy also revealed he had held detailed discussions on the negotiation process with key officials, including the National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, the Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Budanov and Member of Parliament David Arakhamia. The Presidential Office deputy head Serhii Kyslytsya is also expected to take part in the meetings.
“Our priority is to do everything to ensure a dignified peace. I thank everyone who is helping us in this,” Zelenskyy said.
A new round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States had initially been scheduled for 5–8 March in Abu Dhabi, but was postponed due to developments in the Middle East.
Last week, Zelenskyy noted that Washington had expressed readiness to host a new meeting, but only on US territory, citing security restrictions that currently prevent American officials from travelling abroad.
