Zelenskyy says Ukraine preparing for multiple scenarios on Chernihiv-Kyiv direction

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the country’s armed forces are preparing for a range of possible scenarios along the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction, amid concerns over potential new Russian military activity in northern Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said preparations for possible Russian actions in the north, protection against drone attacks and the further strengthening of Ukraine’s air defences were the main topics of a meeting with senior military commanders.

The meeting, attended by acting Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa and commanders of several army corps, focused on the battlefield situation, Russian troop activity, assessments of Moscow’s plans and Ukraine’s response capabilities.

The President said military commanders also discussed the defence of communities in the Kherson and Dnipropetrovsk regions, including Nikopol, as well as measures to counter Russian drone attacks and provide additional support to frontline troops.

“We received a report on our preparations for various scenarios in the Chernihiv-Kyiv area, taking into account intelligence assessments and Russia’s continued search for ways to prolong and expand the war,” Zelenskyy said.

The meeting also addressed the need to further reinforce air defences along the front line and outlined the next steps in implementing Ukraine’s ongoing military corps reform.
