Zugdidi Mayor Davit Kodua has held a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss the state of local irrigation and drainage systems, municipal officials said on Thursday.

Kodua was joined by Giorgi Kvaraia, head of the Regional Office of the Rural Development Agency for Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti. According to the municipality, the talks focused on the condition of existing drainage networks, ongoing challenges and future development plans.

Officials noted that improving irrigation infrastructure was essential for strengthening agricultural productivity in the region.

Kodua thanked the ADB delegation for their interest and outlined projects already carried out in the municipality, while acknowledging that challenges remained. He also expressed appreciation for ADB-funded initiatives implemented in Georgia, including the Zugdidi wastewater treatment facility.

The mayor said the city plans to begin designing a unified stormwater drainage system, adding that ADB’s support would be crucial for advancing the project.
