Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has responded to Ukraine’s National Day of Unity and tweeted that the date is particularly significant in face of current ‘difficult challenges.’

She said that the day is important for Georgia, for the country which also has its territories occupied.

In her post the president reaffirmed her support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani has also expressed support for ‘brotherly’ Ukraine today, at the event dedicated to the date, and condemned Russia’s possible recognition of occupied Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states.

The world fears that Russia may invade Ukraine as thousands of Russian troops are assembled at the country’s borders.
