Fatal accident in Kharkiv: 16-year-old Infinity driver taken to court

A bill of indictment was sent to court against 16-year-old Infinity driver Nikolai Kharkovsky, suspected of committing a fatal accident in Kharkiv. This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

 

"Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office sent to court an indictment against the 16-year-old driver on the facts of violation of traffic safety rules, which led to the death of the victim, and knowingly false report of a crime (part 2 of article 286, part 1 of article 383 of the Criminal code of Ukraine)", - said in the message.

 

The investigation established that on October 26, 2021, around 20:40 near the intersection of Gagarin Avenue and Odesskaya Street in Kharkiv, the Chevrolet Aveo and Infinity driven by a 16-year-old driver running a red traffic light collided. As a result of the accident the driver of the Chevrolet Aveo died on the spot.

 

"After the accident, the 16-year-old driver and three passengers, two 19-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital. While in the medical facility, the driver called the police and reported that his car was allegedly stolen," the report said.

 

The investigation also found that the Infinity car was in good condition at the time of the accident, including the braking and steering systems.

 

"Now there is an investigation into the facts of parents allowing a minor to drive a car and malicious failure to take care of the child (Article 287, Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Also under investigation is the fact of illegal possession of a vehicle (part 1, part 3 of Article 289 of the CCU)," - said in the message.

 

On October 27, Kharkivskyy was announced suspicion. On October 28, a court in Kharkiv sent him to the detention center without an alternative form of bail.

 

The driver of Infinity did not have a mental disorder, dementia or other diseased state of mind at the time of the fatal accident in Kharkiv.

 

In December, a pre-trial investigation into the case against the 16-year-old driver was completed.

 

As it became known, the parents of the 16-year-old Infiniti driver Nikolai Kharkovsky may be prosecuted under two articles of the Criminal Code. In this case, they could face imprisonment for up to 5 years.
