The European Commission has offered to provide Ukraine with 1.2 billion euros in emergency macrofinancial assistance. This is stated in a statement by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

"Today I am announcing a new package of financial assistance to the country on emergency loans and grants. First, the Commission is offering a new emergency macrofinancial assistance package of €1.2 billion. This package will help meet Ukraine's financing needs because of the conflict. We expect that the EU Council and the European Parliament will adopt this package as soon as possible," reads the statement.

It is noted that if approved, the first tranche of 600 million euros will be paid quickly.

"Moreover, we will soon begin work on a second, long-term program to support the country's modernization efforts. Second, this year the Commission will almost double its bilateral grant aid to Ukraine: another 120 million euros will be made available. This support will strengthen Ukraine's efforts to support the state and sustainability," the statement said.
