Ukraine and Turkey have signed a number of bilateral agreements during the visit of Turkish President Recep Erdogan to Kiev. Among them is an agreement on free trade, reports UNN.

 

"Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal and Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey Mehmed Mush sign a free trade agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey," the announcer announced.

 

Also Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov signed with his Turkish counterpart a framework agreement on cooperation in the field of high technology.

 

Earlier, the head of the Defense Ministry said that the construction of the Bayraktar plant would be one of the examples of filling this agreement.

 

In total, Ukraine and Turkey are expected to sign 12 interstate agreements today.

 

The Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on the eve approved a draft agreement on free trade between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. 

 

The basis of the deal is that Turkey will nullify duties on 10,337 commodity items, another 1,348 commodity items will be subject to tariff quotas or reduction of duties.

 

According to Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko, after the conclusion of this agreement, all the friendly countries of the Black Sea - Georgia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine - will be connected by free trade agreements with common rules of origin.

 

She noted that last year the trade turnover between the countries amounted to $7.3 billion (export of Ukrainian goods was $4.1 billion, and import of Turkish goods - $3.2 billion). The lion's share of Ukrainian exports - about 70% - is metal and grains.

 

"The basis of the agreement is nullification of duties by Turkey on 10,137 commodity items, this is 95% of the total number of goods. In addition, another 1,348 commodity items will be subject to tariff quotas or reduced duties. Today Ukraine imports to Turkey only one tenth of these goods. We import to Turkey 1100 items" - said Sviridenko.
