Former Prosecutor of the International Tribunal for War Crimes calls for an international warrant for Putin's arrest.

Carla Del Ponte, former prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for War Crimes in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, called for an international warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by Bloomberg.

The former chief prosecutor of the UN tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda called for an international arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Putin is a war criminal," Carla Del Ponte told the Swiss newspaper Le Temps in an interview.

In an interview with Swiss media on the occasion of the release of her latest book, the Swiss lawyer, who led UN investigations into Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, said there were obvious war crimes being committed in Ukraine.

She said she was particularly shocked by the use of mass graves in Russia's war against Ukraine, which resembles the worst wars in the former Yugoslavia.

"I had hoped never to see another mass grave again. These dead people have loved ones who don't even know what happened to them. This is unacceptable," Carla del Ponte declared.

Other war crimes she found in Ukraine included attacks on civilians, the destruction of civilian buildings and even the destruction of entire villages.

The former chief prosecutor of the U.N. tribunals said the investigation in Ukraine would be easier than in Yugoslavia because the country itself had filed a request for an international investigation.

She said even Putin could be brought to justice.

Del Ponte added that there should be an investigation into possible war crimes committed by both sides, pointing also to reports of alleged torture by Ukrainian troops of some Russian prisoners of war.

We shall remind you that Biden called Putin a "war criminal".
