Spanish law enforcers have detained blogger Anatoliy Shariy. The Ukrainian side initiates the procedure for his extradition.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine in its Telegram.

According to the Service, Shariy was detained as a result of a multi-level special operation on May 4. This was possible due to the interaction of the SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General with international partners.

"This detention is further evidence that every traitor of Ukraine will sooner or later receive the punishment he deserves, it is inevitable," the SBU reports.

Shariy is suspected of high treason and violation of equality of citizens on the basis of their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other characteristics (discrimination).

Investigators believe that Shariy acted to the detriment of the national security of Ukraine in the information sphere. There are suggestions that he acted at the request of foreign structures.

"The evidence of the investigation is confirmed by a number of expert studies, which established that in interviews and speeches Shariy has the facts of his subversive activities against Ukraine," reads the message.

Investigative and operational measures to bring Shariy to justice are continuing.

According to the statement of MP Fedor Venislavsky, the procedure of extradition of Shariy to Ukraine will be initiated, so that he will be held accountable under Ukrainian laws.

"But you have to be aware, all the Western European countries are watching the procedure very carefully. I am convinced that Shariy's lawyers will appeal all actions, so to hope that he will be on Ukrainian territory tomorrow is too optimistic. But I have no doubts that he will definitely get to the territory of Ukraine and will be brought to justice", - said Venislavskyy.
