The Secretary General of the Council of Europe agreed in Kyiv a package of measures to address the consequences of Russian aggression

Council of Europe Secretary General Maria Pejcinovic-Buric spoke about the agreement in Kiev on an immediate package of measures to address the direct consequences of Russian aggression.

The package includes advising Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova and her office in the context of their investigations of gross human rights violations and their cooperation with the International Criminal Court, Pejcinovic-Buric noted.

The Council of Europe is also preparing a package of measures to be implemented after the aggression ends, the Secretary General added.

"I affirmed the Council of Europe's unwavering support and solidarity in these very difficult times with President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people. The evidence of indescribable atrocities that I witnessed in our member state Ukraine is deeply disturbing," Pejcinovic-Buric said.

In Ukraine, she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Japarova, members of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and representatives of military and civil society, including the leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
