This year for the first time May 28 is celebrated in Azerbaijan not as Republic Day but as Independence Day.

In this regard, a new bill "On Independence Day" was adopted at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis on October 15 last year. With its adoption, May 28 - Republic Day and October 18 - State Independence Day were renamed. May 28 was declared Independence Day and October 18 - Independence Restoration Day.
