Poland has sent Ukraine more than 240 tanks and almost 100 units of armored vehicles as part of its assistance in the fight against Russian invasion.

Polish President Andrzej Duda told the German newspaper Bild.

"Ukraine needs heavy weapons, tanks. These are Ukraine's needs. I spoke to President Zelenski two days ago. He asked me again. We have sent tanks, more than 240 tanks that Ukraine can service. We sent almost 100 armored vehicles and weapons. Weapons, ammunition, missiles. We sent a total of $2 billion worth of arms," Duda said.

According to him, Poland had expected to receive a certain number of Leopard tanks from Germany to replenish its stockpile, but this has not happened so far.

"For us it goes without saying that instead of the old Soviet tanks that we supplied to Ukraine, we receive a certain number of Leopard tanks from Germany, not the most modern ones. Because we have older versions of Leopard tanks in Poland. With this help, we wanted to replenish these stocks a little bit. We could get the older ones and upgrade them in the future - also with the help of the German industry. As far as I know, we didn't get any," Duda said.

He also called on all countries that can help Ukraine to provide weapons, such as artillery. "These weapons are necessary to stop the Russian invasion," Duda said.

Earlier, Duda accused the German federal government of not keeping its word on the tank exchange scheme.
