Zelensky responded to the petition to introduce an exam for Ukrainian citizenship

President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to a petition to introduce a mandatory exam for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. The head of state instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to work out the relevant issue.

 

The relevant petition was published on the website of the presidential office.

 

The president noted that the issue of introducing a mandatory exam for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship would require legislative regulation.

 

According to the Constitution and the law "On the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine", the government ensures the implementation of policies in the fields of education and science, comprehensive development and functioning of the state language in all spheres of public life throughout the territory of Ukraine, conducts state legal policy, regulates migration processes.

 

"I appealed to the Prime Minister D. Shmygal with a request to work out the issue raised in the electronic petition in a complex way", - said Zelensky.

 

Note that the petition was filed on May 23 of this year. Its initiator Vitaliy Kapustyan asks the head of state to introduce a mandatory exam for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship.

 

The author stated that in addition to the set of documents, candidates must show their respect and genuine interest in acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.

 

At the same time, he believes that the exam should include tests in the Ukrainian language, history of Ukraine, a test of knowledge of the Constitution. The author also suggests studying the national anthem.
