Taiwan has lifted fighter jets into the sky from Chiayi Air Base. This comes at a time when the Speaker of the lower house of the U.S. Congress, Nancy Pelosi, is on a plane heading to the island, which was opposed by the Chinese side. Journalist Chaudhary Parvez reported this on Twitter.
"Chinese troops have begun shelling the Taiwan Strait with live artillery shells. Although China claims this is just a drill, meanwhile Taiwan has just lifted fighter jets from Chiayi Air Base," the journalist wrote, citing sources.
Note that Nancy Pelosi's plane, according to radar data, is getting closer and closer to Taiwan. The movement of the plane has already been watched by over 50 thousand people.
It also became known that the Chinese warships are keeping an eye on the American carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier CVN 76 Ronald Reagan.
At the same time, China closed the Taiwan Strait and continued "training firing" with artillery and MLRS. Also local media recorded the deployment of MLRS in the province, which is only 180 km from Taiwan.
"Meanwhile, Taiwan has only deployed air defense systems at Taoyuan International Airport, a civilian facility," writes the Israeli media.
Recall that Pelosi's planned visit to Taiwan has seriously exacerbated tensions between China and the United States. Official Beijing demanded to cancel the trip because it considered it an interference in the internal affairs of China. Washington fears that the plane with the American delegation may be shot down.
In this connection, the U.S. sent an aircraft carrier to the coast of Taiwan, and Beijing threatens the island that it "will have to feel the wrath" if Pelosi does visit the territory.
