Ukraine calls on the US administration of President Joe Biden to impose sanctions against all Russian private banks in order to deprive President Putin of the ability to wage war.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova told Bloomberg news agency.
According to Markarova, official Kiev wants the U.S. to add several banks a week to its list of sanctioned financial institutions. The ambassador added that she has submitted a request to that effect to the U.S. Treasury Department.
"Sanctions are as important as weapons," Oksana Markarova said.
According to her, imposing sanctions against any Russian bank is quite legitimate because they are all effectively involved in financing Putin's campaign.
"As soon as one bank falls under sanctions, some other private bank suddenly becomes a financier of industry or the military," she said.
While a few banks can be kept for certain purposes, "everyone else should be sanctioned because they are all involved in financing the war-waging terrorist machine," Oksana Markarova said.
Ukraine also insists that the U.S. State Department put Russia on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, she added.
