Germany must be ready to defend its territory - Minister of Defense

Germany should be ready for a potential attack against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Germany, Christine Lambrecht, according to the DW publication.

"We must be ready to defend Germany and the territory of the Alliance," Lambrecht said in an interview with the Rheinische Post and General-Anzeiger newspapers published on Monday, November 21.

Asked by reporters to comment on Bundeswehr Inspector General Eberghard Zorn's remarks that Germany should be prepared in case it finds itself embroiled in a self-imposed war, Lambrecht said: "Defence has always been a key task of the Bundeswehr."

Also, according to Lambrecht, the Bundeswehr will be able to provide Germany's defense in case of need. She expressed confidence that NATO partners would help Germany.

"The Bundeswehr will never have to defend Germany alone, we will always have our allies on our side, and the armed forces in the Alliance can certainly defend Germany," she explained.

In addition, Germany "can and should become better in all areas", especially in the field of air defense, where, according to her, there are shortcomings in Europe.

We will remind, at the end of October, the military counterintelligence of Germany (MAD) reported on the increased activity of foreign intelligence.
