An attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran took place in Tehran, as a result of which an employee of the diplomatic mission was killed.
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
"On January 27, 2023, around 8:30 a.m. Baku time, an armed attack took place on the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attacker fired at the security post with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and killed the head of the security service. Two embassy guards were also injured while preventing the attack. Their condition is satisfactory.
1news.az later reported that the police soon detained the attacker, and his interrogation is ongoing.
According to preliminary data, the attacker entered the embassy of Azerbaijan with two minor children. The man who opened fire said he attacked because of personal and family problems.
