"Navalny" received the "Oscar" award as the best documentary film

The documentary "Navalny", shot by the Canadian director Daniel Rohr on the order of the streaming service HBO Max and CNN Films, received the award of the American film academy "Oscar". The ceremony was held in Los Angeles on the night of Monday, March 13.

 

 The wife, daughter and son of Oleksiy Navalny - Yuliya, Darya and Zakhar - received the award together with the director.

 

 "My husband is in prison because he tells the truth," Yulia said from the stage of the Dolby Theater.

 

 During the award ceremony, the director thanked the family of politician and Bellingcat investigators Hristo Grozev and FBK Maria Spivchych.

 

 "Thank you for your courage. The whole world is with you," he said.

 

 The film "Navalny" tells about the poisoning of a politician in August 2020 in Tomsk, his rehabilitation and preparation for his return to Russia. Filming began almost by accident, Roer told RFE/RL in an interview, — from the acquaintance of the documentarian and Grozev, who, together with Navalny, managed to expose the alleged FSB employees who attempted to assassinate the politician.

 

 Previously, the film won the BAFTA award - the main British award in the field of film art and the Producers Guild of the USA award. In addition, the film received the award for the best film according to the opinion of the audience at the American independent film festival "Sundance".

 

 Navalny himself is currently serving a long prison term in a colony in the Volodymyr region, he and his associates are sure that he is being persecuted for political reasons. Several other criminal cases have been opened against him, and their consideration could potentially increase his term.
