Mass events banned in Kyiv and Poltava region on Independence Day

Due to security concerns, the city authorities of Kyiv decided to restrict mass events on the Independence Day of Ukraine. According to this decision, deputy heads of the Kyiv City State Administration and heads of district state administrations received separate instructions to prevent the organisation of non-governmental mass events, such as religious, cultural, educational, sports, entertainment and other events, on 23 and 24 August. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.

In order to ensure public order and safety of the participants of the National Flag Day and Independence Day celebrations, which are planned at the state level, the heads of the Main Departments of the National Police and the State Emergency Service in Kyiv have been given additional instructions on ensuring security and control over the celebration of these events.

"I urge all Kyiv residents and guests of the capital to be as attentive and cautious as possible these days and not to neglect air raid warnings," - Klitschko wrote.

A similar appeal was published by Dmytro Lunin, head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration: "Mass events have been banned in the Poltava region since 21 August. This decision was made at the Regional Defence Council in connection with the possible intensification of enemy shelling. The date of cancellation of this restriction will be agreed at the next meeting."
