President of Portugal visits Ukraine

President of the Republic of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived in Ukraine this morning for a two-day visit, the Portuguese mass media Publico reports.


The head of state arrived in Kyiv at 7:30 a.m. at the Kyiv Passenger Station, accompanied by Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho. The President of Portugal noted that his visit to Kyiv is aimed to express solidarity with Ukraine and participate in the celebration of Independence Day on Thursday.


"The Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Assembly of the Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and now the President of the Republic have already visited here. Portugal continues to show its solidarity in various areas," de Sousa said shortly after arriving at Kyiv Passenger Station.


The president also announced a planned meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and participation in the Crimean Platform summit.
