Republicans' blocking of US arms supplies could affect Ukrainian offensive - Financial Times

The position of the Republicans, who are blocking US military aid to Ukraine, may negatively affect the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times.

According to the publication, even a temporary cessation of support could slow down Ukrainian military strategy and tactics, creating a risk of counteroffensive by Ukraine, easing pressure on Russian forces and allowing them to restore their combat capability. This is especially true for the supply of artillery ammunition and air defense equipment.

Ukraine spends about 6-7 thousand artillery shells a day. They are used to destroy Russian fortifications. This should be done faster than Russia is rebuilding them.

The Financial Times also clarifies that the US is running out of artillery shells, which is why the Americans have begun supplying cluster munitions. It is planned to gradually increase their production.

At the same time, US General Charles Brown says that Washington has already planned military supplies to Ukraine until at least January 1, 2024. The Pentagon has about $5.4 billion in reserves for this purpose.

"But in a few weeks, if nothing seriously changes in Congress, I think it will affect the decisions that are made on the battlefield. It will definitely affect the plans in the winter and spring," said Max Bergman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
