The Kerch Bridge, restored after damage during the July attack, will be able to provide limited Russian transportation to the occupied Crimea and will require significant Russian resources to protect it from new attacks. This opinion is expressed by the UK Ministry of Defense on its page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The report states that on October 14, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that Russia had completed repairs of the Kerch Bridge ahead of schedule after it was damaged by a Ukrainian attack.
"Although the bridge is fully usable, this use remains limited to the measures that were taken after the first Ukrainian attack on it in October 2022. Trucks and tankers continue to be transported by ferries. At the same time, the bridge continues to be crucial for Russia to maintain its hold on occupied Crimea and bring in resources for its forces in southern Ukraine," British intelligence believes.
At the same time, according to the intelligence, the Kerch Bridge has "almost certainly" become a significant problem for Russia, given that it requires constant comprehensive protection, including air defense systems and the involvement of specialists that Russia could deploy for some other task.
"The confidence of the Russian security forces in their ability to protect this large and vulnerable structure will continue to be threatened by the ingenuity of the Ukrainian army and special services," the report said.
