The United States, Japan, and South Korea held historic joint air exercises

For the first time in history, the United States, South Korea and Japan conducted joint air exercises off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. This was reported by Kyodo.

The exercises were part of the countries' efforts to strengthen defense cooperation amid North Korea's growing missile and nuclear threat. The exercise involved fighters from the South Korean Air Force, the US Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Forces, which accompanied a US B-52 strategic bomber that landed at a South Korean air base on Tuesday.

The publication notes that the nuclear bomber made a rare landing in South Korea and took part in joint exercises with South Korean fighters.

"The deployment of an American B-52 strategic bomber in South Korea for reasons other than participation in joint military exercises is considered rare," the publication said.
