Zelensky decided to hold presidential elections in 2024 - Honcharenko

Member of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity) said that President Volodymyr Zelensky had decided to hold presidential elections on March 31, 2024. The MP said this on the air of Espresso.

"According to my information, Volodymyr Zelensky has decided to hold presidential elections next year. He instructed the President's Office to prepare for the elections scheduled for March 31, 2024. This is supposedly the constitutional deadline - the last Sunday of March. They are going to explain this decision to the public by saying that it is allegedly a requirement of Western partners. In particular, by saying that if these elections are not held, Zelensky loses legitimacy. Especially against the backdrop of Putin's plans to hold elections in March," Honcharenko said.

According to him, Western partners do not demand that Ukraine hold elections during the war.

"I want to assure you right away that our Western partners do not demand any elections from us. There are no public or non-public demands. This has nothing to do with our partners. These are purely political tasks set by the Presidential Office. We are talking exclusively about the presidential election. Since parliamentary elections are expressly prohibited by the Constitution of Ukraine," Honcharenko emphasized.
