Polish carriers rejected proposals to end border blockade

Polish carriers rejected the joint proposals of the European Commission, Ukraine and Poland and refused to stop blocking the border with Ukraine. Their main demand is a return to the permit system for Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

According to the press service, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, and the European Commission's Directorate for Transport and Mobility held talks at the Dorohusk checkpoint on November 15.

"As a result of the talks, the parties developed joint solutions and offered them to the Polish protesters. The latter proposals were not agreed upon," the statement said.

The press service said that the key demand of the protesters was a return to the permit system. This demand cannot be fulfilled, as stated by the Ukrainian side, and the European Commission's Directorate General emphasized that such an issue could not be the subject of this meeting. The agreement on liberalization of freight transportation between Ukraine and the EU will be in force at least until June 30 next year.

As a reminder, on November 6, Polish carriers began blocking three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.

As we reported earlier, if the Polish authorities fail to resolve the problem of blocking border crossings with Ukraine, the European Commission may take punitive measures against Poland.
