Finnish Prime Minister announced temporary closure of border crossings with Russia

On November 28, Finland decided to temporarily close all border crossings on the border with the Russian Federation. This decision was announced by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Yle reports.

According to him, this step of the government is to "take control of Russian hybrid activity affecting the country as quickly as possible".

"We are talking about organized activity," the Prime Minister said.

The decision to close the eastern border will officially take effect on Thursday at 00:00 and will last until December 13.

The country's Interior Ministry clarified that it will be impossible to apply for asylum at border crossings, but it will be possible to do so at ports and airports.

It should be noted that Finland had previously planned to close eight of the nine checkpoints on the border with Russia. The reason was "Russia's use of illegal migrants as weapons".
