The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has recognized the "international LGBT movement" as an illegal organization in Russia following a lawsuit filed by the Ministry of Justice. The movement was recognized as an extremist organization, according to Russian media.
It took the judge four hours to consider the claim of the Ministry of Justice. Journalists were allowed into the courtroom only to hear the decision.
On November 17, the Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court to recognize the LGBT movement as extremist and ban its activities in Russia.
The ministry saw in its activities "signs and manifestations of extremist orientation, in particular, incitement to social and religious hatred."
