For the first time, Russia reported that drones have reached Leningrad region

For the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported the interception of a UAV over the Leningrad region.

According to the Defense Ministry, the attack on Russian territory using airplane-type drones occurred around 01:30 Moscow time (00:30 Kyiv time).

"One unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed over the territory of the Moscow region and one was intercepted over the territory of the Leningrad region by regular air defense systems," the statement said.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin clarified that air defense systems destroyed a drone flying toward the Russian capital in the sky over Podolsk near Moscow.

Meanwhile, Russian telegram channels cite sources, write that the drone, which was carrying about 3 kg of explosives, tried to attack an oil terminal in St. Petersburg. According to them, the wreckage of the drone was found on the territory of the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal.

It has been preliminarily established that the drone was an airplane type with a wingspan of 6 meters and a piston engine. Allegedly, the terminal's infrastructure was not damaged and no one was injured. The wreckage of the UAV could also have fallen into the Gulf of Finland, 5 kilometers from the terminal.
