Ukrainian military uses hybrid air defense systems FrankenSAM

Yuriy Ihnat, a representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said during a national telethon that the Ukrainian military uses FrankenSAM hybrid air defense systems to cover civilian and military objects.

According to him, Ukraine uses such systems, in particular, in aviation: it uses Western-made missiles on Soviet aircraft.

"These systems we are talking about now are not so long-range. They can work up to about 15 kilometers. Therefore, we cannot expect to shoot down targets at long distances. But why not use them to cover locally infrastructure objects, military facilities, or anything else," Ihnat explained.

The speaker added that the Ukrainians are also modernizing man-portable air defense systems for mobile firing groups. According to him, it is a question of equipping portable anti-aircraft systems with thermal imaging equipment to increase the rate of downing enemy targets.

In Davos, Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industry Oleksandr Kamyshyn said that the Ukrainian military had used FrankenSAM hybrid air defense systems for the first time to repel a night attack by Russian "Shaheds".

"Today we shot down a Shahed nine kilometers away, and this is the first successful use of such a system. I am very glad that we have deployed it on the battlefield, protecting our sky and our people," he said then.
