Attacks by Houthis in the Red Sea will lead to an increase in food prices in Europe - Bloomberg

Military operations in the Red Sea are beginning to disrupt food supplies and threaten to drive up prices in Europe, Bloomberg reports.

The Suez Canal is used to connect Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Ships loaded with food to avoid Houthi attacks sail around Africa. This route is longer and more expensive. But unlike gas, oil, and consumer goods, the longer delivery times could result in perishable food becoming unsalable.

Almost 70 billion euros of EU imports and exports of agri-food products could be affected: grapes, apples, kiwi, citrus, coffee, meat, poultry, dairy products, wine, tea, spices, ginger, etc.

This also applies to oil products, but to a lesser extent.
