Zelensky: Social payments to Ukrainian refugees should be transferred to the budget of Ukraine, and we will distribute them among people ourselves

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that it would be better if the money that European countries provide to Ukrainian refugees were transferred to Ukraine, and the country distributed it among people. He believes that this way the money would support the Ukrainian economy. He said this in an interview with the German TV channel ARD.

"If the government wants to help Ukrainians, then there is a moment when, for example, a person has left and is abroad and receives support from Germany. It happens that this person receives support from you and from us. That is why I have always said that it would be much better for us if Germany supported Ukrainians by giving money to the budget of Ukraine, and then Ukraine would redistribute this money depending on where this person is," the head of state noted.

The President explained that part of Ukraine's money is now in Europe, because when Ukrainians fled the war, they took money with them. And then Europe began to support Ukraine and all the money that went to support Ukrainians remained in the economy of a particular state.

"And eventually, our money left, and European money remained where the citizens of Ukraine remained. Outside the territory of Ukraine. I don't have any questions. I just want us to pay attention to this. When the whole world talks about financial support for Ukrainians, I would like to draw attention to where most of this money remains," Zelensky said.

According to the president, the decision whether to support Ukrainians is a personal decision for Germans and Germany. At the same time, Zelensky called for not generalizing the issue of refugees, particularly men, as there are those who left the country and had legal opportunities to do so.
