Orban's unexpected statement: Ukraine's path to the EU will "push through" even with Hungary's veto

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine's membership in the EU will be "pushed through relatively quickly" despite Hungary's veto. Budapest will not be able to create a significant obstacle to this. He said this at a closed parliamentary meeting before the European Council summit in the spring of 2023, Telex reports.

Journalists report that Orban, although he believes that Hungary can achieve certain results, emphasized that it will not put up significant obstacles to Ukraine's accession to the EU. He claims that despite their objections, Ukraine's membership in the European Union will "push through us" relatively quickly.

The Prime Minister also expressed his observations on the geopolitical risks associated with this decision.

Orban pointed out that with Ukraine's accession, a "center of power" would emerge within the EU, where the United States would dominate militarily, politically, and economically.

He defined this north-central European zone as including the three Baltic states, Poland, Ukraine, which has lost part of its territory due to Russia's actions, and Romania, which has looser ties to the United States than Russia.
