Head of the Defense Ministry's department Nakhkur was suspended on suspicion of corruption

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov has suspended from duty the acting director of the Department of Military Technical Policy, Development of Arms and Military Equipment, Toomas Nakhkur, who was served with a notice of suspicion on January 27 in the case of embezzlement through the agreements with Lviv Arsenal.

"By the decision of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov of February 1, 2024, at the request of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, the acting director of the Department of Military-Technical Policy, Development of Arms and Military Equipment of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Toomas Nakhkur, was suspended from the official duties," the ministry said.

The reason for Nakhkur's suspension is officially "the announcement of suspicion in criminal proceedings."

It is worth noting that Toomas Nakhkur became the head of the procurement department last year, after the dismissal of the previous head, Oleksandr Liev. In January, both of them were suspected of stealing UAH 1.3 billion by officials of the Ministry of Defense during the purchase of shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
