Alexei Navalny died in a Russian penal colony. The cause of death is currently being established. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.
It is claimed that during a walk Navalny felt unwell, after which he almost immediately lost consciousness.
"The medical staff of the institution immediately arrived, and an ambulance was called. All the necessary resuscitation measures were carried out, which did not yield positive results. The emergency medical doctors declared the death of the convict," the website reports.
Russian public media reports that the probable cause of Navalny's death could be a blood clot that broke off.
Peskov confirmed Navalny's death and said that Putin had already been informed about it.
