The EU plans to approve the transfer of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine in the coming days. This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

"We have now initiated legal steps to ensure that the interest earned on these deposits does not belong to Russia," she said.

Such a measure is currently the only one agreed upon by the West.

Some countries have proposed to simply confiscate assets or use them as collateral to borrow money and transfer it to Ukraine, but many such measures are considered illegal.
