Lubinets claimed that Ukrainian prisoners of war were shot by Russian soldiers

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said that Russian troops had probably shot seven Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered as prisoners in the Bakhmut district. He also posted a video on his Telegram.

According to the ombudsman, the war crime took place on February 24, 2024.

"The video we managed to obtain shows Ukrainian soldiers surrendering: their hands were raised in the air, showing that they were unarmed and did not pose a threat. The Russians were supposed to take them prisoner, but instead they mercilessly shot them," Lubinets said.

He also said that the exact number of Ukrainians killed is not known, but there were probably at least seven of them.

"These are the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Such a shooting is a war crime! We also now know from which military unit of the Russian army the soldiers who mercilessly executed Ukrainians," he emphasized.

The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation. Preliminarily, the crime occurred during an assault on Ukrainian positions between the villages of Ivanivske and Khromove.
