Strikes on Russian refineries put out of action 10-15% of Russia's refining capacity - Bloomberg

As a result of Ukrainian drone strikes, the capacity of Russian refineries ranging from 600 to 900 thousand barrels, which is 10% to 15% of daily oil refining, was put out of commission. This was reported by Bloomberg.

According to Gunvor CEO Torbjörn Törnqvist, about 600 thousand barrels were put out of commission.

The drone strikes hit several plants in Russia, some deep inside its borders, causing diesel futures to rise for the fourth consecutive session.

"It's important because obviously it will immediately hit distillate exports. So it will probably reduce exports by a couple of hundred thousand barrels," Törnqvist said.

Gunvor was a major trader of Russian oil before the invasion of Ukraine, but stopped trading shortly after the war began.

Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase estimates that Russian refineries have lost about 900,000 barrels per day as a result of the Ukrainian attacks. It could take "several weeks, if not months," to restore the capacity, and the strikes will add about $4 per barrel of risk premium to global oil prices, analysts say.
