MP faces life imprisonment: SBU completes investigation into grenade attack in Zakarpattia region

The Security Service of Ukraine has completed an investigation and submitted to court an indictment against MP Serhiy Batryn, who detonated three RGD-5 and F-1 grenades in the Keretsky village council in Zakarpattia, killing two people. He faces life imprisonment, the SBU press service reports.

"According to the investigation, on that day, the defendant tried to influence the decision-making on personnel and budgetary issues made by the community leadership. However, having failed to achieve the "desired" result, he briefly left the session hall to put explosive ammunition on alert," the statement said.

After that, the deputy took the grenades out of his pockets and threw them on the floor of the room, where almost the entire deputy corps of the village council was present.

The SBU investigators filed charges against Batryn under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 3 of Article 258 (terrorist act that led to the death of people); Part 1 of Article 263 (carrying, storage, purchase of explosive devices without a permit).

The deputy is currently in custody.
