GUR: Russia launches PSYOP on TikTok, praising 'evaders'

The GUR claims that Russia has launched an information and psychological operation, the main message of which is to praise "evaders" on social media.

"Recently, videos have been appearing on TikTok and other social media, in which allegedly Ukrainian men are filming videos abroad on vacation and calling themselves 'evaders'. Such content receives views and comments from the audience, both favorable and critical, but discussions under these videos only push them into trends. For such content, "folk" songs were simultaneously created, the lyrics of which trace the main message - praise of "evaders," the agency said in a statement.

The GUR believes that the synchronized appearance of numerous songs and videos that "glorify men who refuse to defend their own country," the anonymity of their authors, and "the promotion of content by organized groups of bots indicate a targeted hostile propaganda campaign."

"This PSYOP is a classic technology of splitting society, when on the one hand there are 'defenders' and on the other there are 'evaders'. The purpose of such actions of the enemy is to disrupt mobilization, increase tension in society through internal confrontation," the GUR said.

The intelligence service noted that Russian propaganda "does not stop trying to undermine Ukrainian society from within, using any methods to do so."

"We urge everyone to be critical of information coming from anonymous sources and always remember that we owe the opportunity to live and, in particular, to consume various content on social networks only to the defenders of Ukraine," the agency added.
