Servicemen who killed a police officer were served with a notice of suspicion

The servicemen who killed the policeman were served with suspicion of murder and attempted murder of law enforcement officers, as well as desertion. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

They face imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.

"Two servicemen were served a notice of suspicion of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives (Article 348, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They were also notified of suspicion of desertion with weapons by prior conspiracy by a group of persons committed under martial law (Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement said.

In addition, the SBI is checking information about the theft of explosives and weapons by the suspects from their military unit.

"According to the investigation, on April 19, 2024, the servicemen, a father and son, left the military unit in Odesa region without permission. They stole a service pistol, which was assigned to one of them," the agency said in a statement.

It will be recalled that on the night of April 20, two soldiers killed one policeman, wounded another and fled the scene during a car inspection. Law enforcement officers detained them in the village of Lypetske, Podil district, Odesa region. Earlier, the suspects' car was found in Vinnytsia region, and ammunition was found on the spot.

Investigative actions are underway with the suspects. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention is being decided.
