Estonian Foreign Minister: Russia jams GPS signal in the Baltic region

Russia is jamming the GPS signal in the Baltic region. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsahkna, Tagesschau reports.

He accused Russia of a hybrid attack on civilian air traffic in a large part of the European Union.

"We know that Russia has been jamming GPS signals since the beginning of its aggression in Ukraine. Over the past year and a half, this problem has become very serious in our region," the minister said.

The politician called it a hybrid attack by Moscow and believes that such actions “destroy lives and violate any international agreements.”

This problem concerns Estonia itself, as well as Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Poland.

He reminded that there is a relevant international convention that sets the rules for interaction between countries, in particular, via GPS. Russia also recognizes this convention.

According to the minister, the signal is suppressed from the territory of St. Petersburg, Pskov and Kaliningrad.
