Changes for crossing the border: men need to have an additional document

Starting May 18, State Border Guard Service inspectors at checkpoints will check the presence of military registration documents for certain categories of citizens.


According to Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, under the new legislation, male citizens aged 18 to 60 are required to carry a military registration document along with their identity document when crossing the border.


Demchenko explained that this obligation was established in accordance with the amendments to the laws “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” and “On Mobilization Training and Mobilization” that come into force this Saturday.


Citizens of Ukraine who have the right to leave in accordance with paragraphs 2-6 of the rules for crossing the state border of Ukraine must provide a military registration document with information on exemption from mobilization or exclusion from military registration for health reasons. These include the following categories of persons who are booked for the period of mobilization and wartime, are declared unfit for military service for health reasons, have three or more children under the age of 18, are raising a child on their own, have a child (children) under the age of 18 and a spouse who is performing military service in one of the types of military service, as well as other categories of persons defined in Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Training and Mobilization”.
