The Ministry of Energy has not yet determined a new electricity tariff, but promises an affordable price

The Ministry of Energy does not yet know what the electricity tariff for households will be from June, but it is confident that it will be affordable. Deputy Minister Mykola Kolesnyk said this during a telethon.

The new tariff could have been introduced in May, but the Cabinet of Ministers decided to keep the price for another month.

According to Kolesnyk, the new tariffs will be affordable for the population.

“The current tariff is valid until the end of the month. Calculations are being made to extend special obligations and the terms of special obligations at different prices. But they are based, first of all, on the fact that the population must be able to pay so that these are affordable tariffs. And secondly, these tariffs should facilitate the repair campaign,” he said.

In 2023, by raising the tariff from 1.44-1.68 UAH/kWh to 2.64 UAH/kWh, the state was able to add 3 GW of capacity to the power system, the official reminded.

“Such a step is important, there is no final decision on a specific price,” he said.

Answering the question whether the increase could be doubled, the Deputy Minister said: “I am sure the decision will be balanced to make this step affordable for the population.”
