Increase in gas distribution tariffs: Regulator named the upper limit

Tariffs for natural gas distribution services for the next year are approved by the NERC annually, usually in December of the previous year. So far, no decisions on the tariffs for the next year have been taken. This is reported by the press service of the NKREKU.

"According to operational generalized calculations, even a hypothetical adjustment of tariffs for natural gas distribution for 2022 on average in Ukraine should not exceed the framework of inflationary processes," - said in the message.

As the NCRECU noted, the intentions of some operators of gas distribution networks (regional gas distribution stations) to increase substantially the tariffs for distribution of natural gas "do not mean that such intentions can be realized.

In the projects of calculations that are published by regional gas distributors at their official sites in October this year, it is proposed to increase tariffs in 2022 from 61% (JSC "Kirovogradgas") to 443% (JSC "Luganskgas"). Operators explain such draft calculations mainly by a sharp increase in the market price of natural gas.

"However, NKREKU approves not the desired tariffs and not the intentions of individual companies, but exclusively economically justified tariffs," the statement says.

The validity of all draft calculations submitted to the NERC will be thoroughly checked. Past experience shows that tariffs for distribution of natural gas are approved in amounts that are significantly lower than those previously calculated by regional gas companies, the NKREKU noted.
