Italy allocates 2 million euros for demining in Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Luigi Di Maio, during his visit to Ukraine, announced the country's accession to the restoration of Ukrainian territories, in particular, humanitarian demining.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

During a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrskiy, with whom he co-chairs the Ukrainian-Italian Council for Economic, Industrial and Financial Cooperation, Di Maio announced the allocation of two million euros for humanitarian demining in the de-occupied territories.

"Many large and small Italian cities have signed memoranda of cooperation with Ukrainian cities. This is a brotherhood between cities that was born either before the war or during it. And we want to use this channel to work towards the restoration of Ukraine. Starting from Today, Italy, both at the highest state level and at the local level, will be able to join the reconstruction projects of Ukraine," said the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry.

He also clarified that Italy will be able to hand over part of the demining equipment to Ukrainian rescuers in the near future.

In his turn, Denys Monastyrskyi also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Italy and its head, Lucian Lamorgese, for welcoming in Milan the family members of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine involved in repelling Russian aggression. On April 26, 88 people arrived in Milan.

In addition, the parties discussed speeding up the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement on Ukrainian-Italian police cooperation signed last June.

As reported, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio made an unexpected visit to Kyiv on Thursday.

During the meeting with him, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of Italy's leadership in the context of the preparation of the eighth package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, Zelenskiy emphasized the need to introduce visa restrictions for citizens of Russia.
