Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio has said that his country is ready to become a guarantor of Ukraine's neutral status. The foreign minister added that Rome aimed to give up Russian energy resources.

"The Italian government is ready to contribute to the peace process and guarantee Ukraine's neutrality," the agency quoted Di Maio as saying.

The minister stressed that Italy supports the continuation of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He praised the actions taken by Turkey.

The foreign minister also noted that Italy has prepared an energy security plan and aims at moving away from the Russian market. In this connection, Rome plans to strengthen cooperation with the countries of the Mediterranean region.
