"History repeats itself": the Latvian Foreign Minister drew parallels between Hitler's attack on Poland and Russia's attack on Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevičs, reminded of the inadmissibility of reconciliation between the aggressors, drawing parallels between the beginning of the Second World War in Europe and the ongoing war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

"83 years ago, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, and the USSR later joined it. This became possible due to the policy of appeasement of the aggressor and the agreement between Stalin and Hitler, which became the trigger for the war. Unfortunately, history repeats itself. Now, as Ukraine continues the struggle with the aggressor, we must continue to support it," he emphasized.

Let us remind you that Latvia is one of the countries that supports visa restrictions for citizens of the Russian Federation.

Edgars Rinkevichs points out in his arguments that for the last 30 years, Russians could travel to Europe, but this did not change them and Russia eventually became the state it is today.

On August 31, the EU foreign ministers at a meeting in Prague decided to completely stop the agreement on the simplification of the visa regime with the Russian Federation and instructed the European Commission to think about what to do with millions of valid Russian visas.
