The European Commission refused Poland to cancel the daily fine of 1 million euros for non-compliance with the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union

The European Commission rejected Warsaw's request to suspend the imposition of daily fines of 1 million euros on Poland for failure to comply with the measures determined by the EU Court regarding the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court.

 This is reported by RMF24.

Poland's non-payment of the assessed fines threatens it with the loss of additional funds from European funding – 150 million euros for five months, during which the European Commission suspended requests for payments.

A representative of the European Commission, Christian Vigan, said in a comment to a correspondent that the EC rejected Warsaw's request.

"The commission has carefully studied the arguments in the letter dated November 3 and based on the results of this analysis, it believes that Poland still has not fully complied with the decision of the EU court," he said.

Poland allegedly already received a message about this in a letter from European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders.

We will remind you that in the summer of 2021, the EU Court obliged Poland to suspend the provisions regarding the powers of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court due to the question of the political independence of this body.

Daily fines in the amount of a million euros were charged for delaying the implementation of Poland's decision. Since Poland refused to pay, Brussels collects them from the funds that should have been allocated to the country from the European budget.

In the summer of 2022, Poland abolished the Disciplinary Chamber and created the Chamber of Professional Responsibility instead. However, the European Commission failed to convince that this reformatting guarantees the absence of political pressure on judges.
