Putin arrives in China: first trip outside the former USSR in a year

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived by plane in Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and participate in the "One Belt, One Road" forum. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

Putin arrived in Beijing on October 17.

According to the plan, talks with Xi Jinping will be held on October 18 in two stages: first in an expanded format, then in a narrow one, in the format of a working breakfast. The Kremlin has not ruled out that Putin and Xi will talk tete-a-tete outside the talks "on the most sensitive topics." During his visit to China, Putin will speak at the "One Belt, One Road" forum.

The Russian delegation includes top government officials and businessmen.

As part of his trip, Putin will take part in the "One Belt, One Road" forum, where the Russian delegation, including top officials and business representatives, will be represented.

The Russian president was met at the Beijing airport by Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao.

Putin's trip to China is intended to demonstrate the strong partnership and trust between the two countries, despite the events in Ukraine.

It is also Putin's second trip outside the former Soviet Union since the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for him in March.

The visit is Putin's first official trip to a foreign country this year, with the exception of a visit to Kyrgyzstan earlier this month.
